The Top 25 Women Leaders in Software of Europe for 2021

The Software Report is pleased to announce The Top 25 Women Leaders in Software of Europe for 2021. These exceptional women have contributed towards the advancement of not only their companies, but the broader software industry at large. Moreover, by achieving as they have, they inspire fellow women colleagues and those entering the technology workforce of what is possible by aiming high and working hard. The awardees selected this year represent companies that provide solutions across a wide range of functional areas including human resources, software development, the internet of things, project management, supply chain logistics, as well as other areas. They have also contributed meaningfully in the areas of artificial intelligence, machine learning, and data analytics.

Hundreds of women were nominated in this year’s process. Each nominee was evaluated based on her breadth of experience, professional milestones achieved, contributions to her organization, and perhaps most importantly her impact towards promoting a positive and productive work environment. With clients spread across Europe and in some cases globally, these awardees have been instrumental in helping companies across industries such as financial services, healthcare, agriculture, and telecommunications, among others, to ensure seamless digital transformation and more efficient business processes. 1. Cheri Williams
Company: DELMIAWORKS (Dassault Systèmes)
Title: Chief Executive Officer

Cheri Williams is the Chief Executive Officer at DELMIAWORKS. DELMIAWORKS is a subsidiary of Dassault Systèmes, a company in France that provides project lifecycle management solutions that enable businesses to create and share experiences in 3D. Williams joined the company in January 2017 as senior vice president of professional services, helping to build and grow the DELMIAWORKS/IQMS business. Just a few years later in 2020, Williams was appointed as CEO. In this role she focuses on increasing customer value, enabling the digital transformation of mid-market manufacturing, and directing the global expansion of DELMIAWORKS operations.

Previously, Williams was the vice president of Verint, vice president of worldwide professional services at MicroStrategy, senior director of operations at PTC, and managing principal at Vignette. Before this, she held positions at Symmetrix Consulting, Fidelity Investments, and Eaton Vance Management. Williams received her Bachelor of Arts degree in economics from Wells College.

 

2. Stella Clarke
Company: Murex
Title: Chief Marketing Officer

In 2014, Stella Clarke joined Murex as Chief Marketing Officer. She is a leading expert in banking technology and operations and has over 20 years of experience in sell-side and fintech firms across Asia and Europe. She has built a strategic global marketing practice that includes product go to market, product marketing, and marketing communications. As a thought leader, Clarke interacts regularly with Murex clients to better understand technology challenges and how to solve them for the capital markets industry. She has been involved in the launch of Murex solutions for IBOR Reform, risk regulations (Basel), and cloud deployment. Before this, Clarke spent 10 years at DBS Bank in Singapore, during which time she was head of technology and operations for treasury, markets, and wealth management, and technology chief architect. She oversaw numerous successful IT system programs in the Capital Markets and Wholesale Banking business lines and participated in the transformation of the bank’s technology landscape.

Realizing the importance of diversity in the long-term growth of capital markets, Clarke actively encourages women to pursue careers in financial software development and conveys these messages by participating in industry conferences, editorial articles, and video interviews, acting as a strong role model for women within her organization, the capital markets industry, and the wider software industry. Clarke is a graduate of ESSEC in France and holds a Master of Business Administration degree with High Honors from the University of Chicago Booth School of Business.

 

3. Véronique Zoccoletto
Company: Lectra
Title: Chief Digital Officer

Véronique Zoccoletto is the Chief Digital Officer and Member of the Executive Committee at Lectra. Founded in 1973, Lectra, which is based in Paris, France is a professional services and consulting firm for businesses across a wide variety of industries. Zoccoletto joined Lectra in 1993 as a sales administration corporate executive. She has since held varying roles of seniority including project executive, chief information officer, and chief transformation officer, before being appointed to Chief Digital Officer in February 2020. In her current role, Zoccoletto implements digital strategy, researches and develops state-of-the-art solutions, and reinvents and develops internal processes and interactions with customers and partners.

Before joining Lectra, she was an administrative and financial executive at Riva Hugin Sweda, an administrative and financial executive at SYS-COM, and a budget and internal audit department manager at Singer. Now with Lectra, Zoccoletto oversees the software and hardware research and development teams as well as engineering, data science, internet of things, artificial intelligence, and innovation programs. Zoccoletto received her Master of Science degree in economics from the Université Paris Dauphine.

4. Lorna McAdoo
Company: Version 1
Title: Director of Operations and Business Development, Northern Ireland

Lorna McAdoo is the Director of Operations and Business Development for Northern Ireland at Version 1. Version 1 was founded in 1996 and provides innovative services to make a real difference to customers' businesses. McAdoo joined the company in 2013 as head of operations for Northern Ireland and helped the company to grow its operations in Belfast from four people to over 100 employees. McAdoo has over 20 years of experience in program and delivery management in senior, client-facing roles on large complex system integration, business transformation, and software development projects throughout the U.K. and Ireland.

Before joining Version 1, McAdoo was a delivery manager at Kainos, project manager at Northgate Information Solutions, project manager at Hibernian, and delivery manager at BT Ireland. Before this, she held positions at British Telecom, BIC Systems, HP, and Bombardier Aerospace. Now in her current role, McAdoo has been integral in providing services to over 20 local and international customers and has aided in increasing revenues by 30% year over year. In 2019, McAdoo was named an IT Business Leader for the Magnet Networks Women in Tech Awards. McAdoo received her Bachelor of Science degree in computing at Ulster University as well as her Master of Science degree in engineering business management from the University of Warwick.

 

5. Dana Florea
Company: Accesa
Title: Chief Operating Officer

Dana Florea is the Chief Operating Officer at Accesa. Founded in 2004, Accesa is the partner-of-choice for well-established, in-need-of-technological-transformation companies. The Romania-based company provides a large spectrum of IT services, including digital product design, application development, operations and support services, enterprise applications, cloud migration, AI solutions, and robotic process automation. Florea joined the company in 2018 as an improvement manager and was promoted to COO in 2020. In her current role she is responsible for providing short- and long-term strategies that support effective business management, fostering the company's growth and development, and helping people to meet the company's expectations and targets.

Previously she was a delivery lead for Paddy Power Betfair, where she was responsible for the alignment and successful delivery of all product capabilities in the scope of the Merger Program. She was also a program manager at Betfair prior to the merger, and a QA team lead at Wayfinder RO. Florea received her Bachelor of Science degree in mathematics and computer science from the Tiberiu Popoviciu College of Computer Science.

 

6. Tuuli Pärenson
Company: Gofore
Title: Chief Executive Officer, Gofore Estonia

Tuuli Pärenson is the Chief Executive Officer at Gofore Estonia. Gofore is a digitization specialist and offers services such as consulting, coding, and design to help and challenge customers to keep up with the ever-changing digital landscape. Pärenson joined the company in 2019 as its Head of International Business Development and CEO. She is an experienced leader with a demonstrated history of implementing change and digital transformation in both public and private sectors, having developed expertise in ICT management, e-Government solutions, telecommunications, banking, entrepreneurship, accounting, and management.

No stranger to executive leadership, Pärenson was previously the CEO of Bär&Sons OÜ, a firm that provides consulting on corporate social responsibility, social entrepreneurship, social impact evaluation, and circular economy. She was also formerly the head of business transformation at Telia Eesti, head of interoperability at the Estonian Information System Authority, and director of development at Coop Pank AS. Early in her career, she held positions at the Ministry of Justice and Audiitorbüroo ELSS AS. Pärenson received her Master of Science degree as well as her PhD in economics from the University of Tartu.

 

7. Johanna Pystynen
Company: LaaS Company
Title: Co-founder and Chief Executive Officer

Johanna Pystynen is the Co-Founder and Chief Executive Officer of LaaS Company. LaaS is a digital HR platform that helps organizations update their whole toolkit to meet the needs of modern working life, based on a Leadership-as-a-Service philosophy. This agile, co-organized, and data-driven platform helps companies lead employees’ well-being, competencies, and employee experience, offering tailored support and services to meet individual needs. 8. Layla Marshall
Company: Ascent Software
Title: Director of Product & Marketing

Layla Marshall is the Product and Marketing Director at Ascent, a digital transformation business that specializes in new software product development, machine learning, Internet of Things, and data science. As the primary creative within Ascent’s international leadership team, her fresh approach to proposition and engagement design makes it easier for Ascent’s European customer base to “do something new, or do something better.” In a techscape of almost limitless promise, Marshall's vision for the blended application of software engineering and data science to build new capabilities within the customer organization (she calls it digital muscle) creates strong, real-world links between technical investment and ongoing business value.

Marshall has always worked in tech, from her first software start-up in 2003 to European leadership roles in U.S. corporates that include Datapipe and Rackspace, owning product and GTM strategy. Throughout her career, she has built and incubated new platforms, services, and technical consulting functions from business case to profitability. At Ascent, Marshall’s experience in supporting and integrating acquisitions will be invaluable as the business continues to fold in new cutting-edge technical specialisms to accelerate customers’ digital evolutions and revolutions. Marshall received her Bachelor of Arts degree with honors in English from the University of Nottingham.

 

9. Ellen Benaim
Company: Templafy
Title: Chief Information Security Officer

Ellen Benaim is the Chief Information Security Officer at Templafy. As CISO, Benaim is responsible for establishing and maintaining a company-wide information security and governance program to safeguard the security and privacy of Templafy’s business document creation SaaS platform and organization. As an organization that helps enterprises ensure content compliance, it’s imperative that Templafy has a security-first mindset, something that Benaim has been responsible for building within the organization.

Benaim has been instrumental in establishing best practices and industry standards at Templafy, most notably achieving ISO27001 and SOC II compliance. But in her role, Benaim has never simply “done security for security’s sake,” but instead approaches solutions with the Templafy customer in mind while serving as many stakeholders as possible. Benaim’s nature as a leader, championing security throughout the organization, has ensured that all Templafyers believe security is part of their personal responsibility at the company. Benaim acquired a Bachelor of Science degree in business information systems from University College Cork and is currently undertaking studies for a CISSP certification.

 

10. Helena Leite
Company: i2S Insurance Knowledge
Title: Chief Operating Officer

Helena Leite is the Chief Operating Officer of i2S Insurance Knowledge. The Portugal-based IT company specializes in the design, development, and implementation of software solutions for the insurance market. Leite is an experienced manager, with skills in strategy execution, business operations, and change management. She has hands-on experience in all functional areas of the organization and a diverse background. She joined i2S in 2016 as a strategy implementation director before being appointed as COO at the beginning of 2020. Before this, she gained 15 years of experience in IT within the retail industry.

Previously, Leite was the CEO of CardMobili, where she set up and developed the company’s operations in Portugal and Spain with responsibility for overall management, investor relations and fundraising, sales and business development, talent acquisition and retention, and partner and analyst relations. She was also formerly a teacher at EdEA, change management practice lead at Wipro Technologies, a post-acquisition integration manager at Enabler, and an analyst at Sonae Distribuição. Leite received her degree in systems and computer engineering from the Universidade do Minho and completed the Management Development Program at IESE Business School.

 

11. Lucija Popovska
Company: Software Group
Title: Chief Operations Officer

Lucija Popovska is the Chief Operations Officer at Software Group. Founded in 2009, Software Group is a global technology company based in Bulgaria that specializes in digital banking and integration solutions for the financial sector. Popovska joined the company in 2016 as a strategy adviser to the CEO before she was appointed as COO in 2017. In her current role, she's responsible for development and implementation, software quality assurance, systems implementation and support, IT operations, global operations, and project management. Popovska has over 15 years of experience as an international development management professional, having held managing operations roles throughout Europe, Central Asia, Africa, and the Middle East. She focuses on housing and housing microfinance, capital mobilization, new product development, and market entries, as well as complex integrated solutions.

Popovska’s experience in development management and multi-stakeholder relations spans non-profits, government agencies, corporations, and financial institutions. Before joining Software Group, Popovska spent 15 years at Habitat for Humanity International, most recently as the company's director of program for EMEA. Before this, she was the head of civil society development at the Macedonian Center for International Cooperation and international secretary at the National Youth Council of Macedonia. She also currently volunteers her time as a Board Member for the Microfinance Center (MFC). Popovska received her Master of Business Administration degree from the Edinburgh Business School.

 

12. Eva Jagalla
Company: NavVis
Title: Chief Operating Officer (former)

Eva Jagalla is the former Chief Operating Officer at NavVis, a leading global provider of indoor spatial intelligence solutions for enterprises, trusted by companies such as Daimler, Allianz, Huawei, Lenovo, and Deutsche Telekom. As COO, Jagalla designed and implemented a new pricing and SaaS-based recurring revenue model, a strategic shift towards an enterprise sales and servicing organization, a new sales and operations global product launch, and the company’s operational, processual, and contractual framework.

Jagalla has over 18 years of experience in growing businesses, strategy development, B2B enterprise sales and services, systemic and complex sales, globalization of sales, service and customer organizations, project management, fundraising, artificial intelligence, and IoT. Before joining NavVis, she was an investment manager at EQT Partners, senior associate at McKinsey, and an investment banker at UBS. A passionate and entrepreneurial leader, she is also a regular speaker at large tech and industry events. Jagalla received her Bachelor of Science degree in international relations from the London School of Economics and her Master of Business Administration degree with distinction from Harvard Business School.

 

13. Elena Podshuveit
Company: Admixer
Title: Chief Products Officer

Elena Podshuveit is the Chief Products Officer at Admixer. Founded in 2008, Admixer is a London-based independent ad tech company that develops an ecosystem of full-stack programmatic solutions. Podshuveit has more than 15 years of experience in managing digital projects, and since 2016 she has been responsible for the Admixer SaaS product line. Throughout her career, she has honed her specialties in the production of digital assets, project management, internet marketing, and business development and strategic planning. Her vision for the Admixer product line is that it becomes a complete toolset for any ad tech player— “Not a one-size-fits-all solution, but a customizable tech stack.”

Podshuveit’s portfolio includes successful startups, projects for top advertisers (Philips, Nestle, Ferrero Rocher, Kimberly-Clark, Danone, and Sanofi), SaaS solutions, launches of online portals, and mobile applications. Previously, she was the chief operations officer at New Strategies Group, the chief digital officer at publishing house Ekonomika, a senior project manager at Digital Ventures, and was a business analyst at Royal Holding. Notably, she was also the co-founder of AdWiser.net where she was also the business development manager. Podshuveit received her specialist degree in physical chemistry from Kyiv National Taras Shevchenko University.

 

14. Tania Calvo
Company: RavenPack
Title: Chief Operations Officer

Tania Calvo is the Chief Operating Officer of RavenPack. The company was founded in 2003 and designs big data analytics services that conduct financial analysis. RavenPack Analytics transforms unstructured big data sets, such as traditional news and social media, into structured granular data and indicators to help financial services firms improve their performance. Calvo joined RavenPack in 2003 as senior vice president of administration and HR before being appointed COO in 2017. She’s been instrumental in shaping RavenPack's foundations as a commercial entity and is a recognized leader by her peers.

With more than 15 years of experience in similar positions, Calvo is a multi-talented, versatile, and experienced manager who has helped develop and strengthen companies from start-up organizations to large, privately held companies with a global presence. Before RavenPack, she worked in the legal, healthcare, and service sectors.

 

15. Aline Bsaibes
Company: ITK
Title: Chief Executive Officer

Aline Bsaibes is the Chief Executive Officer at ITK. ITK is a company based in France that specializes in the creation of decision support tools for agricultural production. Bsaibes joined the company as a crop modeler in 2009, before climbing the ranks as a product owner, where she managed a crop modeling team, defined project scope, and ensured alignment with business requirements. She then became the director of strategy and business development, and eventually was appointed CEO in 2019. Bsaibes is at the helm of a company that helps farmers maximize their return on investment, and the company is set to grow from 100 to 300 employees by 2022. Her leadership in the area of business development has been critical to the company’s growth.

Before joining ITK, Bsaibes was completing her thesis in mathematics applied to agriculture for her PhD at the French National Institute of Agricultural Research. Previously, she was a TV show presenter in her native Lebanon and a field engineer at USAID. Bsaibes moved to France at the age of 25, and before her doctorate, she received her Master of Science degree in engineering and agriculture at the American University of Beirut as well as an Executive Master of Business Administration degree from EMLYON Business School.

 

16. Katherine Zabrodova
Company: Umbrella IT
Title: Chief Business Development Officer

Katherine Zabrodova is the Chief Business Development Officer at Umbrella IT. Founded in 2009, the Russian company implements international web projects, such as corporate websites, news portals, and business automation solutions. Zabrodova joined the company in 2017 as a project manager before becoming chief project officer and she was appointed CBDO in 2020. She is responsible for building and managing the processes in the digital department, hiring middle management specialists, overseeing the resource management of the IT department, performing negotiations, and ensuring compliance with company standards.

Before joining Umbrella IT, she was at MultiCharts for five years, most recently as the head of business development where she established new partnerships in the U.S. and internationally. Before this, she was a guide and interpreter at the Orthodox Cruise Company. She has also been an ICAgile Certified Professional and an Agile Team Facilitator since 2018. Zabrodova received her specialist degree in intercultural communication from Russian Southern State University, as well as her Master of Business Administration degree from the Moscow School of Management.

 

17. Carolyn Hunt
Company: Alpega TMS
Title: Director of Go-to-Market

Carolyn Hunt is the Director of Go-to-Market for Alpega TMS, a role in which she brings together marketing and strategy to offer the best possible software solution to streamline the supply chains of manufacturers, wholesalers, and retailers. Alpega TMS is a cloud-based SaaS Transportation Management System that connects companies to logistics providers resulting in supply chain collaboration and simplification of complex logistics processes worldwide.

Driven by her passion for sustainability, Hunt has helped Alpega articulate how collaboration and digitalization can reduce empty trucks on the road in Europe and help shippers account for and reduce their greenhouse gas emissions. She played a major role in the effort toward building one offering, one team, and one brand after the Alpega Group brought together two of the market’s leading solutions: Transwide and inet – now Alpega TMS. Hunt brings over ten years of supply chain experience, including from her previous roles in new product development and go-to-market strategies for freight, parcel, and warehousing at UPS. She holds an International Master of Business Administration degree from RSM at Rotterdam University.

 

18. Sarah Anderson
Company: Vizor
Title: Chief Operating Officer

Sarah Anderson is the Chief Operating Officer at Vizor. Founded in 2000, Vizor is the leading global provider of software for financial regulation. Based in Ireland, the company's software offers one system that supports the full supervisory lifecycle. Anderson joined Vizor in 2017 as head of delivery before being appointed as COO in 2018 and executive board director in 2019. In her current role, Anderson drives process improvements and lean practices within the Vizor product portfolio. A dynamic and transformational business leader with over 20 years of software development, project delivery, and service delivery experience, Anderson is known for her passion for process optimization and the design and delivery of complex technology.

Before joining Vizor, Anderson was head of PMO at Evros Technology Group, operations manager at Inspired Software and Services, senior technical project manager at IPAG, senior IT project manager at Avaya, and spent six years at Alcatel-Lucent, most recently as a project manager. In 2018, she was shortlisted for the Women in IT Awards Ireland for Transformation Leader of the Year. Anderson received her Bachelor of Science degree in computer science and software engineering from the Dublin Institute of Technology.

 

19. Julia Fowler
Company: EDITED
Title: Chief Operating Officer and Co-Founder

Julia Fowler is the Chief Operating Officer and Co-Founder of EDITED. The London-based company is a leader in retail market intelligence and helps retailers make better decisions and drive sales through AI-driven market data, research, and analytics. Fowler is a former fashion designer and established EDITED due to her frustration with the industry’s lack of factual data. In 2009, she created a product that combined the mass of industry data available online, with a traditional approach to forecasting. Traditionally, designers, buyers, and merchandisers rely on poor information and guesswork to make important retail decisions, even though the right decision can make someone millions and the wrong one can lead to a designer losing just as much.

Fowler has been named one of Forbes’ ‘Women Entrepreneurs to Watch’ and appeared on NRF's ‘The List of 25 People Shaping Retail’s Future.’ She and her company now successfully help retailers and brands understand market dynamics by analyzing commercial, social, and industry data. Fowler has also fostered a positive workplace environment and prides her company on its diverse staff.

 

20. Cressida Sergeant
Company: Traveltek
Title: Chief Commercial Officer

Cressida Sergeant is the Chief Commercial Officer at Traveltek. The U.K.-based company is an industry leader in providing cutting edge technology to the travel industry. Sergeant joined Traveltek in 2018 as senior vice president, EMEA before being appointed Chief Commercial Officer that same year. In her current role, she's responsible for the global sales team, driving customer service within the global partnerships team and global supplier relationships. Sergeant has an excellent track record in commercial negotiation and sales strategy and is an advocate for women in business and technology.

Sergeant joined Traveltek from Kognitiv Corporation, where she was senior vice president of sales and partnerships. Prior to that, she was senior director of business development EMEA for Expedia's B2B brand EAN, leading a team that successfully pursued business opportunities in new geographies and sectors. Before this, she was the head of commercial and partnerships at TravelSupermarket.com, the business development director at Teletext, the head of commercial for The Global Travel Group, and a senior account manager at Lastminute.com. Sergeant received her Bachelor of Science degree in business and sports studies at Brunel University London.

 

21. Louise O'Connell
Company: Fenergo
Title: Chief Customer Officer

Louise O'Connell is the Chief Customer Officer of Fenergo and is responsible for client success management, client support, product management and roadmap, regulation and compliance and professional services. She began her career in technical support and worked in a variety of roles of increasing responsibility for companies such as Corel Corporation, Compaq/IT Alliance Ltd. and Microsoft. Louise then moved into financial services and specialized in banking technology and change management for on-line banks and bank software providers including ‘First-e The Internet Bank’ and Eontec.

For the past 17 years, Louise has worked in a variety of roles within the asset finance and leasing industry, working as European Operations and IT Director for CIT Bank. Whilst there Louise oversaw the Dublin Service Centre and a pan-European team of over 200 staff across 16 countries. More recently Louise was COO for PEAC (Pan-European Asset Company) where she also held a number of director-level roles. Louise holds a degree in Applied Languages from Dublin City University and a post-graduate diploma from Dublin Business School.

 

22. Lesley Fockema Andreae-Mulder
Company: Mapiq
Title: Chief Operating Officer

Lesley Fockema Andreae-Mulder is the Chief Operating Officer of Mapiq. Founded in 2013, Mapiq is a smart office technology company based in the Netherlands that optimizes workspace usage enabling a better workday experience. Andreae-Mulder joined the company in 2017 as chief financial officer before being appointed to the COO position in 2019. In her current role, she leads the business support department, including overseeing the finance, IT, legal, human resources, recruitment, and talent management departments. Andreae-Mulder has a deep understanding of and interest in the operational side of businesses, which combined with her executive board experience has been a significant asset for Mapiq.

Previously, she was the owner of FAM Consulting, managing director of AmsterdamSafe BV, COO and executive board member at Amsterdamgold.com, founding manager at YES!Delft, incubation manager at Dnamo Incubator, and a manager at Area010. Now with Mapiq, she focuses on improving the long-term viability of organizations by implementing changes in processes, procedures, and culture. Notably, she also has extensive experience in greenfield situations and complex multi-stakeholder environments. Andreae-Mulder received her Master of Science degree in business administration from Erasmus University Rotterdam and completed the Entrepreneurship Development Program at the MIT Sloan School of Management.

 

23. Cristina Bentué
Company: IriusRisk
Title: Chief Operating Officer

Cristina Bentué is the Chief Operating Officer of IriusRisk (formerly Continuum Security). Co-founded by Bentué and Stephen de Vries in 2015, the Spain-based company is the creator of a leading automated threat modeling platform. It enables security engineers, software architects, and developers to secure applications in an agile environment, and its platform integrates with the normal development workflow so that security is built in. In her current role, Bentué co-manages the R&D department, leading her team to produce innovative security offerings in the development space.

Bentué is an advocate for open platforms and leads the community edition of IriusRisk to offer users a free, collaborative platform for sharing system architecture threat models. Cristina is an advocate for women in technology and encouraging girls to choose STEM subjects at an early age. 24. Stefanie Rollins

Stefanie Rollins is Chief Operating Officer for warehouse management system (WMS) technology innovator, SnapFulfil, with a remit for North America, as well as the U.K. and Europe. SnapFulfil is a leader in warehouse management, providing a cloud-based, tier 1 WMA that is highly flexible, thanks to its unique configuration engine, and can be easily adapted to meet evolving fulfillment demands and multiple site rollouts. Rollins has held her position since January 2019, having previously been VP and head of support services. Her passions are mentoring, coaching, and problem-solving and she is currently molding the future of operations for SnapFulfil and its clients - focusing on continuous improvement for all.

In her 20 years at SnapFulfil, Rollins has also headed up the company’s Support Services, Quality Assurance, and Customer Success teams, with extra responsibility for developing the implementations offering in keeping with a leading supply chain execution solutions specialist. Rollins has additionally attained Level 5 in the ILM Award for Leadership and Management.

 

25. Veronica Marcano
Company: Adappt.ai
Title: Chief Creative Officer

Veronica Marcano is the Chief Creative Officer at Adappt.ai, a software house behind key global projects including NGO systems coordinating global outbreaks and apps for Cholera, HIV, and Road Safety. Marcano has a fine arts background and worked in the film/tv industry before setting up a software house in 2008.

In 2012 when Spanish bank BBVA needed a media intelligence app for their staff’s iPads, Marcano was selected to create the interface. She coined the phrase “Apps for people with Fat Fingers,” and pioneered a tile-based newsfeed layout with finger menus, swipe paging, and many features that are now ubiquitous. When the WHO Malaria team needed an App to distribute information, Marcano pioneered a low code platform. When presented with a global system for managing operations and outbreaks that looked more like a set of spreadsheets, she turned the entire platform into a social network experience, which in turn transformed its user-base from one person in Geneva to being heavily used by institutions across the planet, including operations for COVID-19 and Ebola. Her talent is creating platforms that people want to use, in a world where the right information at the right time means everything.
