  1. Jim Zuffoletti is the CEO & Co-founder at SafeGuard Cyber, a digital risk protection platform that provides security and compliance for over 50 cloud-based social media, collaboration, mobile chat, and enterprise applications. Jim is an industry visionary in risk management, security, and compliance technology, and guides all aspects of organizational growth at SafeGuard Cyber. He founded the company in 2014, along with co-founder Otavio Freire, and leads the development and execution of long-term strategies while delivering shareholder value. Jim has long recognized that business would be conducted beyond the traditional security perimeter to transformational digital and social media channels and has played a pivotal role in establishing SafeGuard Cyber as a platform that secures human connections by providing visibility, security, and compliance across communication channels, at scale. He has been a founder of start-up organizations as both an entrepreneur and an intrapreneur for the past 30 years. SafeGuard Cyber detects threats and automates compliance for the digital applications that have become essential in today’s work-from-anywhere business environment. The technologies that SafeGuard Cyber protects include Zoom, Slack, LinkedIn, and WhatsApp, to name a few. SafeGuard Cyber’s agentless architecture represents a key differentiator in establishing the company as a leader in digital risk protection technology. ThreatCortex, its cloud-delivered security analytics engine, uncovers hard-to-identify threats such as social engineering, malware, and compliance risks, powered by ML and AI in hard to visualize cloud application locations. Since the rapid digital transformation to remote work brought upon by the pandemic, this architecture has helped SafeGuard Cyber’s customers gain unprecedented visibility into risks, no matter where their employees communicate. And whether they use VPN or not. SafeGuard Cyber’s customers include Johnson & Johnson, Atlantic Bay, and Janssen. In April 2021, Jim guided SafeGuard Cyber through a $45 million strategic growth financing round led by NightDragon, Cisco Investments, and AllegisCyber Capital. To date, the company has secured $55 in funding. Based in Charlottesville, Virginia, SafeGuard Cyber has 53 employees. Jim has also grown SafeGuard Cyber to be a diverse and inclusive company, where the representation of women numbers around 40 percent of the staff, far eclipsing others in the industry, where the average is about 25%. Jim previously worked as CEO and Co-founder of OpenQ, a technology company that enabled pharmaceutical, biotech, and medical device companies to discover, regulate, and leverage the social networks forged with outside influencers and researchers. He also cofounded FreeMarkets, which is now part of Ariba, a business unit of SAP, where he worked from startup through which was at the time the most successful IPO in history. Jim is widely respected in the entrepreneurship and cybersecurity fields and has been cited as an expert in both the academic world and in the media. Since 2006, he has served as a Visiting Executive Lecturer at the Darden School of Business at the University of Virginia. He is also a widely sourced media contributor, having been quoted in numerous top-tier media outlets, including The Washington Post, TechRepublic, and Security Magazine. Jim holds an MBA from the Darden Graduate School of Business Administration where he was a Genovese fellow and possesses a Bachelor of Arts in Economics and Fine Arts from Amherst College.
