Karen has 20+ years of technology sales, business and people development experience including leadership and operations with an average success rate of over 120% of goal in her years at Entrust Datacard.In her current role with Entrust Datacard and previously at Quest Software, Karen spent time driving sales and revenue growth. Her approach is based on three key principles: be authentic, advance a purpose and hold each other and yourself accountable. These principles enable every member of the team to engage, align and succeed. And that builds trusting and profitable teams.
Karen Messett has decades of professional experience proving herself a leader in Saas; inspiring women as a model of what success looks like while empowering and encouraging others along the way. Karen’s many strengths, professional accomplishments, and recent awards will speak for themselves but before sharing these I would like to start by sharing her passion for, and her commitment towards, the community. Passionate about community: Karen continuously emboldens herself and others to seek out opportunities to help. In the local community Karen was recently elected as a Board of Director for the Ottawa Humane Society. In addition to her local community contribution she is chair of her company’s community board that is compromised of volunteers with the goal of supporting local community each quarter. Each quarter has a theme (Education, Health, Environment, Food) and the board creates fun local fundraising efforts as part of the company’s corporate goals. The result has seen donations to food bank drives, packing and supplying school supplies for under privileged children, assisting tornado victims in Dunrobin, aiding at the Food bank farm with crop collections. Loyalty, Steadfastness and Resilience: Karen has been with Entrust Datacard for 17 years and in her time here, and through many company changes, her career has progressed from the role of a Strategic Account Executive to Sales Manager to Director of Sales – Certificate Services. While improving business at all levels Karen has not been afraid to go outside of her comfort zone to strive for highly set goals for herself, her teams and the company. Excellent communicator: Karen is a quarterly presenter at Executive level Quarterly Business reviews, North American customer summits. Karen is also a Motivational speaker at quarterly new hire Boot Camp training. Karen fosters a positive work culture by: – Including top performing team members in interviewing and hiring people with open mind sets, mix of talents and skills, drive and collaborative – Implemented a regular cadence of open communication and accountability amongst team and individuals across Ottawa, Minneapolis, Dallas offices. From weekly team meetings which are critical in keeping all departments informed efficiently and clearly defining prioritization of next steps (implementation/risk management/business operations efficiencies, product updates etc). Weekly/biweekly brief one-on-one meetings with reps and Manager to review forecast but also built in time to check in on reps engagement level, aspirations, challenges in order to provide support. Builds trust. – created a peer mentoring program for on the job cross training to help sales members to learn different skills to enhance abilities which not only aids in individual development, helps them prepare for possible promotion within organization and creates a supportive environment and bonding. Fosters continuous development, empowers members to help support their team during interim coverage opportunities (peer on vacation, continued operations during periods of open head count as backfills are being hired). – highlights team and individual accomplishments in weekly meetings and motivates individual reps to nominate their peers for significant contributions (includes awarding certificates peer-to-peer and management to peer). Streamlines internal processes to improve company’s functional capabilities: – a key focus in Karen’s business success has been to improve efficiencies across the organization – Led as a project resource on multiple key internal initiatives created by Sales Operations, Product Development, Finance to help define, test and successfully roll out a new customer friendly self service quoting capability within current Saas model. Benefit – customers can now buy through their secure web portal by uploading a purchase order as an option to using credit card. Reduces sales person interaction, results in more efficient completion rates, greater customer satisfaction rate. – developed New Hire onboarding processes (no formal or documented process existing prior to entering into a management role in 2015) – Initiated quarterly round table meetings with Manager/Director level across business segment to better understand issues/share resolutions/support efforts (now taken over by HR department as group has grown from 7 to 18 people). Results have led to enhancements in support processes, hiring, onboarding, project development etc. Growth of Company’s revenue and profitably: 94% retention rate in sales division YOY 87% growth rate in division YOY Since Karen was promoted to management in 2015 she has led the team in Saas bookings from 11M to 55M in 4 short years. Awards: Karen was honoured as: Sales Leader 2019 – awarded at President’s club for over-achieving 55M on 50M target – 110% of target – which was 82% of the global number.
