David is the Founder and Chairman of Hotjar. Before founding the company, he spent a decade generating hundreds of millions of dollars in growth consulting some of the web’s most sophisticated companies. Founded in 2014, Hotjar is a 100% distributed company with 170 team members across 33 countries and is used on over 900,000 sites worldwide.
David is that sort of boss you always wish you had in any other job. He gets involved at every level of the company- nothing is beneath him, and he “gets his hands dirty” like the rest of us. He is compassionate and strategic with every devision he makes and I’ve never met anyone who is as intelligent as he is, but makes you feel like you are on the same level in every situation.
Promotes a huge amount of transparency within the company. Has a good understanding of the key company metrics and what to do to improve them. His ability to put things into perspective makes it really easy to talk about things and offer feedback. Has a clear vision of where he wants Hotjar to go.
David lives the Hotjar values and has an absolute vision of where we need to go and empowers the full team to do what is necessary to get there. He values and encourages feedback and criticism at all steps of the way, more than anyone else I’ve ever met and worked with. He is utterly unique.
David is one of the smartest, most open-minded, friendly people I’ve met. He has built a company with amazing culture, where people really care about each other and the company itself. Quite frankly, I consider it a privilege to work for this company.
David knows so much about a lot of things and that’s what makes him great! His diverse background (in law, design, CRO) allows him to understand multiple perspectives but it doesn’t mean that he decides it all, he’s also very receptive to feedback.
David is great at steering the company to the right direction whilst at the same time constantly believing that his team is the best asset. It’s always a pleasure to work with David. His energy and drive are contagious and he is Hotjar’s backbone.
David thinks long term and does so in a calm, cool manner while steering the company through the problem du jour (there’s always something and it’s always different, and he always has an intelligent, instinctive approach to tackling it).

I’d say the company culture is a strength – David has done such a great job of building out and continuing to foster this incredible culture of collaboration, support, caring. It makes Hotjar an incredible place to work.
David is amazing at making everyone feel valued and heard. No employee is too junior or too new that their feedback isn’t valued just as much as his own. He’s also very supportive and just an amazing all-round person.
