Elizabeth Daggert drives change by helping people connect to the big picture. She enjoys building and leading teams to bring strategic unknowns to knowns, while simplifying the technically complex to create organization-wide alignment.
As a leader, Elizabeth emphasizes a foundation of respect, accountability, transparency, and continuous improvement. She provides clarity and context where there is ambiguity, and brings a dedicated, pragmatic, and intuitive work ethic to all she does. Her passions include creating compelling software, delivering at scale, building inclusive cultures, developing individuals, and practicing gratitude — all while embracing a growth mindset towards organizations and technologies.
In her 25+ year career, Elizabeth has developed a proven track record of delivering in roles that have spanned the gamut from creating her own startup to leading large development teams at Microsoft and Ericsson. She has been privileged to work with teams that brought nine brand-new products from inception to market, as well as seven additional releases of new versions in existing product lines. In her brief time as a rocket scientist she helped design and launch an autonomous microgravity centrifuge experiment that flew on the space shuttle Endeavor.
Beth makes it easy to communicate with, such a great personality drops any pressures for initiating critical conversations. Beth can breakdown complex systems at a high level and drill into details, yet keeping it simple at the same time, maintaining the context for the current audience to best convey and persuade ideas. Beth has a great command and control center brain for handling sticky situations where hard decisions have to be made, and doing so with setting expectations up the chain to avoid surprises. Beth keeps the future in mind aligning the team to a roadmap that keeps the team motivated for new innovation coming soon. Most of all, Beth keeps her word; to the company and to the team. She fights for her team with the best interest of the company moving forward. Our team trusts Beth. Period. And because we have that trust in her, we as a team are more engaged, motivated, and productive.
In a typically male-dominated field, Beth has become a vocal, driven, and caring leader as VP of Engineering at GuideSpark. She manages a diverse team with engineers from all over the world, some of whom are based in remote locations in other states. She encourages innovation by taking calculated risks and encouraging new ideas. She cares deeply about her team, helping them develop on a professional and personal level. To get to know Beth even better in her own words, I recommend checking out this two-part Q&A with her about women in STEM: https://www.guidespark.com/blog/women-in-stem%3A-an-interview-with-beth-daggert-part-1/ and https://www.guidespark.com/blog/women-in-stem%3A-an-interview-with-beth-daggert%2C-vp-of-engineering-part-2/
Leadership – Beth has had to manage and motivate her team through significant challenges including a significant business/product transition and now COVID-19. She has kept her team together and productive by combining business perspective, technical skills, and empathy. This is her first VP role and she has really stepped up as a key member of the executive team. Technical skills – engineering leadership needs to combine management skills, business skills, but also strong technical skills to lead and gain respect from an engineering team at our stage. She combines these incredibly well.
Beth is an incredible female leader to our engineering department as well as an executive to the company. She makes sure everyone has a voice and is heard no matter the circumstances. Having listened to Beth share many of her stories about being a woman in STEM, such as being the only female representative at conferences, and discrimmination she has faced, I am proud to work at a company that recognizes her astound skills and passion to be our VP of Engineering.
We are a small organization and have to be mindful where we focus the team. Beth has to balance driving new features and address critical maintenance issues to both satisfy customers and product management in addition to simultaneously driving engineering excellence and advanced research to keep her technical teams organized and motivated. She does this all with a stedfast calmness and authority that ensures we all operate as a single team.
Even though I do not work directly with Beth in her capacity as VP of Engineering on a day-to-day basis, her leadership is felt through out our organization. She is a thoughtful and smart leader who always has her eye on the big picture for our company as a whole while centering with laser focus on the day-to-day needs of her team.
Beth is an amazing communicator and cross-functional leader. She has a way of rallying the troops across multiple teams, and a unique knack for explaining complicated concepts in an easily intelligible, calm manner. She is a steadfast presence, even when things are stressful, and she models what it means to be a supportive manager.
Beth has shown tremendous leadership during difficult times. She consistently exhibits leadership with empathy and strong team building. Beth has taken charge of a complex technical update and led a distributed team to a great outcome. She communicates and negotiates very well with peer departments.
Beth is incredibly bright and humble. She listens to employee feedback and never shows signs of stress, even during the busiest times. Beth knows how to keep her team engaged with creative solutions like storytelling and card games to exercise different parts of the brain.
Straightforward approach, down-to-earth presence and communication, strong role model for womxn at the company: takes up space, makes her voice heard, strives for and expects greatness, leads a team who respects her immensely, and gets things done.
