A serial entrepreneur and a software developer, Jeff co-founded Twilio in 2008 to bring communications into the world of software. Prior to Twilio, Jeff was co-founder & CTO of NineStar, founding CTO of, co-founder, CEO & CTO of Versity, and one of the first product managers for Amazon Web Services. Jeff grew up in Detroit, started his first company at age 12 doing event video production, DJ’d his way through college, and graduated from the University of Michigan. He is a father of two young boys, enjoys photography, and always makes time to hack on new software and hardware projects.

  1. Jeff is a value-based leader. Early on, Jeff dedicated a substantial amount of time articulating Twilio’s values – or the kinds of attributes Twilions should strive for. He believed that no matter how big Twilio grew, values would serve as guidance so that every employee knew how to make decisions based on the company’s guidelines. Those values include ‘be humble’, ‘no shenanigans’, ‘start with the why, and ‘empower others’. Those values have become the catalyst for many programs at Twilio including, the company’s social impact organization that empowers nonprofits and social enterprises to use communications for good as well as Hatch, Twilio’s apprenticeship program that provides career paths for people who do not have traditional education backgrounds and have ambitions to become software engineers. Jeff is relentless, impassioned, and philanthropic. Jeff challenges his team to think about how Twilio can use its resources to empower our communities and give back and this is something that is discussed everyday within the walls at Twilio.
