  1. Kat earned her business degree from BYU and worked in human resources for General Electric Insurance Solutions. She then earned her J.D. from the U of U. Following graduation, she worked as a judicial clerk to the Honorable Dee Benson and then joined Clyde Snow & Sessions in employment law, first as an associate and then advancing quickly to shareholder and director. Although Kat had many opportunities in law, she always planned to return to the world of business. When CEO Karl Sun reached out, she realized Lucid was the perfect opportunity and joined as VP of People Operations in September 2017. Since joining, Kat has quadrupled the size of the People Operations team while enhancing its overall culture, building a more cohesive and close-knit team that works well together but also has fun together. She ensures her team has the necessary resources and processes in place to be successful; for example, she made the case for and implemented the LinkedIn recruiter tool, which has been extremely useful for sourcing and sharing candidate profiles with hiring managers. Since joining Lucid, Kat has spearheaded several major initiatives and addressed key company needs. When a needs assessment revealed employees’ desire for an increased emphasis on professional development, Kat created a centralized learning and development program from the ground up. As part of this program, Kat revamped the entire onboarding process from an intense one-day program to an interactive two-week experience. Kat has been instrumental in implementing key compliance and administrative solutions, such as analyzing complex benefits information to save the company money while benchmarking against other Utah tech companies. Kat focuses on empowering people, especially women. Shortly after joining Lucid as the first female executive, the executive team signed the Parity Pledge. Kat hosted the first WomenHack event in Utah, and she spearheads the diversity and inclusion committee at Lucid. Kat’s other accomplishments include being named the Utah State Bar Outstanding Mentor, S.J. Quinney College of Law Young Alumna of the Year, Utah State Bar Young Lawyer of the Year, First Place Award of Achievement for Outstanding Activities and Accomplishment for Service to the Public and the Utah State Bar, Super Lawyers Magazine Mountain States Rising Star (2012-2016), and Utah Business award for Utah Legal Elite, Labor and Employment.
