Construction Software Space Sees More Deal Activity

Throughout history, regardless of the ups and downs of the economic cycle, one thing has remained true – cities and towns continue to expand. And they expand in large part through the efforts of construction companies both large and small. It’s no surprise then that software investors, whether strategic or financial, have long been interested in participating in the space. And lately the form of participation has been to acquire outright.

Last year Autodesk acquired PlanGrid, a leading provider of construction productivity software, for a reported $875 million and most recently, Deltek announced its acquisition of ComputerEase.

Although not as well-known in the media, ComputerEase is used by over 6,000 contractors in North America. The company’s solutions are offered on-premise or in the cloud and includes a number of tools: job costing, construction accounting, project management, field management, fleet and asset management and certified payroll, all tailored to the unique needs of the construction industry.

ComputerEase founder Bob Mattlin expressed his excitement about their new home, "We are thrilled to announce this new combination of Deltek and ComputerEase." He continues, "I started this business over 35 years ago to bring together my two passions—accounting and construction—and our company has accomplished a lot in those 35 years! With Deltek, we will have a partner that is 100% committed to our current set of products, and Deltek will help accelerate investment in those products and our leadership in the construction industry."

Deltek is already expansive in scope and the acquisition furthers its capabilities. More than 23,000 organizations and millions of users in over 80 countries around the world rely on Deltek for project intelligence, management and collaboration.

Deltek President and CEO Mike Corkery discussed their vision for the future, "Deltek has always had a relentless focus on project-based businesses and powering customer success. With the acquisition of ComputerEase, we will accelerate those efforts in the construction industry and provide the best solutions for contractors," further adding, "There is a huge opportunity in the construction industry to help contractors become more efficient and profitable. We believe that together, with Deltek's focus on project-based businesses and ComputerEase's fit-for-purpose solutions and industry expertise, we will be the undisputed leader in construction software and solutions. We look forward to closing this deal in the coming days and welcoming the ComputerEase team to the Deltek family."
