Industrial Tech Leader Laurel Solutions Adds To Portfolio

Laurel Solutions is a unique type of investment company offering the best of both in the private equity world. Backed by FFL Partners, it has access to the extensive network of an established firm but the nimbleness of a start-up. Specializing in the industrial technology sector, their portfolio companies provide commercial and industrial hardware, software, and connectivity solutions for their customers.

Founded in 2017, the company is based in San Francisco and their investment philosophy involves much more than simply providing capital. Laurel Solutions has a strong team of dedicated professionals with a deep industry knowledge to support their asset companies through all stages of growth. With expertise in the areas of technology, business and organizational development, market strategy, and M&A, there isn’t much that the firm can’t accomplish between their own resources and the breadth of FFL’s global network.

Interestingly, much of Laurel’s leadership team shared a common employer in Sensata Technologies, a global provider of sensors and electronic controls. Martin Carter, who previously served as Sensata’s head of sensing solutions business, now holds the position of Laurel’s CEO. Likewise, both Chet Reshamwala and Gregg Field occupied senior leadership positions at Sensata before making the jump to Laurel Solutions to serve as chief operating officer and senior vice president, supply chain management respectively.

Despite their recent beginnings, Laurel has built a solid base of portfolio companies, including: DataOnline, a provider of remote data collection for industrial assets; Wikon, a supplier of remote monitoring and telemetry solutions for the oil, gas and utility industries; and Neutronics, a producer of refrigerant and gas analyzers for various sectors. Most recently, Laurel Solutions has announced their acquisition of UK-based Servelec Technologies, a market leader in the provision of telemetry, SCADA and business optimization solutions.

“Servelec Technologies is a leading provider of connected remote monitoring and control solutions, helping clients and industries to realize their digital futures, and our investment further builds out our leading portfolio in remote asset monitoring and control,” said Martin Carter, CEO of Laurel Solutions. “We are excited to partner with Servelec Technologies’ highly-talented management team, and plan significant investment in innovative products and solutions that will enhance the company’s already outstanding offerings.”

For more than forty years, Servelec Technologies have been serving customers around the world. With offices on four continents, they operate in a growing multi-billion dollar market that spans the water, energy, transport, and infrastructure sectors.

“We’re thrilled to have the backing of Laurel Solutions as we start a new chapter as a standalone transport business,” said David Frost, Managing Director at Servelec Technologies. “Laurel brings not only the technical knowledge, but the business operations experience and capital resources that will be instrumental in our success and future growth.”
