Meta Unveils Upgraded Llama 3 Models and Enhanced Meta AI Assistant

Meta, the parent company of Facebook, announced significant upgrades to its large language model and AI assistant. On April 18, 2024, Meta introduced Llama 3, available in two sizes with 8B and 70B parameters, respectively. These models have been integrated into Meta AI, the company's AI assistant, heralding it as one of the most intelligent and capable AI assistants available for public use, according to CEO Mark Zuckerberg.

The latest Llama models boast reduced false refusal rates, improved alignment, and increased diversity in responses, along with advancements in reasoning, code generation, and instruction. Despite being open-source, Llama 2 previously required companies with over 700 million monthly active users to obtain a license from Meta for its use. However, Meta aims to expand Llama 3's capabilities, making it multilingual and multimodal while enhancing performance across core capabilities like reasoning and coding. Meta AI, available across various platforms including Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp, and Messenger, is also set to debut on Ray-Ban Meta smart glasses in multiple languages outside the U.S., signaling Meta's ambition to position its AI assistant as a major player in the AI landscape.
